safefood is an implementation body set up under the British-Irish Agreement with responsibility on an all-island basis for promotion of food safety and healthy eating, research and fostering scientific co-operation.

Chief Specialist in Nutrition

Applications are invited for the position of Chief Specialist in Nutrition based in our Cork head office.

The role of Chief Specialist in Nutrition will be to support and empower people across the island of Ireland to eat healthily, with a key focus on preventing obesity and addressing food poverty.

Activities will include

  • providing technical expertise to research programmes, initiatives and campaigns,
  • translating scientific information into best practice for promoting healthy eating,
  • providing independent assessment and evaluation of initiatives,
  • developing and maintaining networks,
  • working in collaboration with stakeholders,
  • participating in policy development and implementation, and
  • potentially acting as a media spokesperson on nutrition for safefood

Qualifications and Experience

  • Postgraduate Degree in Nutritional Sciences, Science or a related area.
  • Accredited to a professional organisation i.e. Association for Nutrition, CORU or British Dietetic Association or equivalent.
  • At least five years’ experience in public health, research, and communicating scientific information.

Salary

STE (NPPC)      €63,543 – €79,825

The appointment will be made at the minimum of the scale.
