safefood funded a three year programme of ten Community Food Initiatives (CFIs) across the island of Ireland to promote healthy and safe food in low-income areas using a community development approach. It targeted families with children and the programme was managed by Healthy Food for All.
This programme was the second three year programme funded by safefood and built upon the key findings from the first Demonstration programme and was expanded to provide a wider community approach. Over the three years the ten projects engaged nearly 30,000 people through a range of activities including healthy eating and growing food. The programme approach supported the individual projects through training and networking.
The current report highlights the key findings from the independent evaluation of the programme.
