Keeping school lunchboxes safe

Help keep school lunches cool and safe by following these tips

Food that goes off quickly, like dairy and meat, should be kept in the fridge. If they are in a packed lunch, keep them as cold as possible until they are eaten.

  • Use an insulated box or bag to help keep lunches cool.
  • Throw away food that goes off quickly if it hasn’t been eaten at the end of the day
  • Wash and dry reusable water bottles, lids and lunchboxes every day in hot soapy water
  • Put food that needs to be kept cool in a separate compartment to other food. This will help keep food that goes off quickly cooler for longer.

It's also good to remind your children to wash their hands before they eat their lunch and if possible to keep their lunchbox away from the radiator.
