Cereal with fresh fruit and nuts

This simple breakfast recipe provides two of your five daily portions of fruit and vegetables and is packed with other beneficial nutrients such as fibre, protein and calcium.

About this recipe

A quick, simple and tasty recipe that we guarantee you will never get bored off. Mix it up and make it your own by choosing different combinations of fruit. Why not go exotic and try mango and pineapple?


Ingredients

  • 40g / 1½oz. of wholegrain cereal (E.g. Weetabix / All-Bran) of your choice
  • 200ml / 7fl oz. of semi-skimmed milk
  • 8 strawberries (100g / 3½oz.), chopped
  • 15 raspberries (60g / 2oz.)
  • 1 tablespoon of flaked almonds
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped walnuts
  • 1 slice of wholemeal bread, toasted
  • 1 teaspoon of low-fat spread

Method

  1. Put your cereal in your bowl along with your milk and chopped fruit.
  2. Add the flaked and chopped nuts.
  3. Toast your bread and add the spread.

What you will need

  • Chopping board

"When fresh berries aren’t in season, you can always replace them with frozen. Keep the juices after you’ve defrosted them, to swirl into the milk for some natural sweetness."
