Toasted cheese

This light meal or snack is loved by all as it is quick, tasty and economical! Ready to eat in less than 5 minutes.

  • 2 slices of wholegrain bread
  • 50g / 2oz of low-fat cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 teaspoons soft margarine or low-fat spread
  • 1 teaspoon of French mustard


  1. Pre-heat the grill
  2. Toast the bread on one side
  3. Toast the other side until it crisps but has not turned brown
  4. Mix the grated cheese, margarine and mustard together and spread over the toast
  5. Grill for about 2 minutes until bubbling and starting to brown

What you will need

  • Cheese grater
  • Chopping board
  • Chopping knife

Serving suggestions

Serve with a side of salad

If you don’t like mustard, why not swap it for a little Worcestershire sauce?
