How to wash your hands

Washing your hands properly is a way to help protect yourself and your loved ones from food poisoning.

To ensure we don't spread bacteria or germs, washing hands regularly and correctly is very important.
- Wet your hands thoroughly under warm, running water.
- Apply soap and lather
- Rub all areas of your hands including, your palms, the backs of your hands your wrists your fingers and fingernails. It's this action which helps the soap dislodge and remove dirt and germs. You need to rub your hands for at least 20 seconds.
- Rinse the soap off completely.
- Drying hands is a key part of hand washing. Wet hands can both pick up and spread bacteria, so drying them properly is very important. Dry them with a clean hand towel.
