Wholemeal scones

These wholemeal scones are just as tasty as any other; they are a better source of fiber and provide more slow release energy that white scones so keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Ingredients

  • 50g / 2 oz. of plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 150g / 5 oz. of whole meal flour
  • 50g / 2 oz. of low-fat margarine
  • 25g / 1 oz. of caster sugar
  • 125ml / 4 fl oz. of semi-skimmed milk

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 230°C / 450°F / Gas mark 8
  2. Sieve the plain flour and baking powder into a large mixing bowl
  3. Blend in the wholemeal flour
  4. Cut the margarine into small cubes
  5. Rub this into the flour mix with your fingers until the mix is powdery
  6. Mix in the sugar, then add enough milk to make a dough
  7. Place the dough on a worktop that’s been dusted with flour, so it won’t stick
  8. Knead the dough with the hands until it’s smooth
  9. Make it a round and flat shape, then cut 6 triangles in it
  10. Transfer to a baking tray and bake for 15 minutes
  11. When baked transfer to a cooling rack and allow to cool
  12. Serve and eat as soon as possible
