Brown rice and peas

This dish is quick and very simple. It uses ingredients found in the cupboard and freezer making it a great option when there’s no time to visit the supermarket


  • 180g / 6½ oz. of brown rice
  • 500ml / 17½ fl oz. of water
  • 100g / 3½ oz. of frozen peas, defrosted
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • Black pepper, to taste


  1. Boil the water in a saucepan and add the rice, follow the instructions for cooking
  2. In a smaller pan, heat up the peas in a little water
  3. When both are cooked, mix them together, adding olive oil and pepper to taste

What you will need

  • Saucepan
  • Wooden spoon

Serving suggestions

Serve this dish on its own or with fish, lean meat or scrambled eggs

Try adding other veg to your rice. How about sweet corn or mushrooms?
