Why are adults giving food treats to children?

Project Reference: 02-2016

Status: Completed

Commencement Date: February 2017

Project Duration: 15 months

Abstract:

A mixed and multiple methods approach will be taken to understand the nature of food treat behaviours among adults on the island of Ireland. The study will explore perspectives from a cross-section of society drawing on views of parents, grandparents, teachers, carers, sports and leisure trainers/facilitators who care for children, to identify their rationales for providing particular foods from behavioural, nutritional and emotional perspectives and the socio-environmental contexts in which these decisions are made.
