Safefood is a multi-disciplinary organisation with an approved complement of 30 staff. Its four directorates are Communications, Corporate Operations, Nutrition, and Food Safety.

Safefood's Advisory Board is a broadly representative 10-member group which provides strategic advice to the Chief Executive and senior management team. The Board meets every six weeks.

Safefood is an all-island body, set up under the British-Irish Agreement Act 1999.
